Basics of Heat Treating
Online
Steel is the most common and the most important structural material. In order to properly select and apply this basic engineering material, it is necessary to have a fundamental understanding of the structure of steel and how it can be modified to suit its application. The course is designed as a basic introduction to the fundamentals of steel heat treatment and metallurgical processing.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:
- Explain the importance and application of the Iron Cementite diagram (Iron Carbon Equilibrium Diagram) and its application
- Describe the Time Temperature Transformation diagram and it influence on phase transformations and microstructure
- Predict the mechanical properties and microstructures resulting from heat treatment initiated by thermal transformation
All materials will be presented online, and the course can be taken anywhere that you have an internet connection.
You will have 12 months to complete the course from the time you register. Interactive activities may include discussions, assignments, live webinar, quizzes and exams with instructor feedback. Some or all of these features may be incorporated in the course.
